I have that same problem!
I decided that I am done being fat and I need to learn to eat right and work out. I have been working out for about 6 days and I have already lost 2 pounds! yay me. About a week before I started working out, I started changing my eating habits. I cut out salt and sweets.
Anyway, what I have been doing to control cravings is to eat all the time, but only healthy foods. If you slowly graze all day, you won't be hungry. Also, when you feel hungry, but it is not time to eat, have something that is protein packed. Protein fills you up so your tummy won't feel hungry.
Sugar and salt cravings are tricky. Your taste buds get addicted to salty and sweet tastes. The only way to kick the habit is to retrain your taste buds that salty and sweet is not something that is needed. It will be hard, but you should see results in about a week or two. In stead of soda, drink water. After a week of not drinking soda, you should definitely taste a difference is soda if you have it again. It will be too strong or too sweet. Instead of a sugary candy snack, have some fruit or veggies. Apples and oranges are naturally sweet also baby carrots have a sweet flavor.
Here is what I eat everyday:
Right when I wake up...Protein shake
Breakfast... breakfast bar or waffles (no butter)
Snack... baby carrots or apple (any type of fruit or veggie will work)
Lunch... sandwich, fruit, veggie
Snack... baby carrots or apple
Dinner... whatever I feel like having (don't restrict yourself, it's ok to have what you really want sometimes as long as it is in a small reasonable portion)
Snack... fruit or veggie OR a protein shake.
Good luck!
